When the bottom of the ocean tells its story.

Time will tell but, major-label-free Lupe just hits a little different. Early reviewers met Drogas Wave, the second in his Drogas installments, with lukewarm reception. Conceptually dense yet, more accessible than usual for a Fiasco adventure, this is album that suffered being digital first. Reviewers were unable to tell that the album was intentionally divided in two parts (double disc in CD format). Listening to it in that light not only makes the journey and experience more understandable but, it also show how Lupe has been able to grow since leaving Atlantic. Sure, there will always be a couple of songs in the middle that Lupe (and only Lupe) loves. But, more important, he’s getting to address topics with as much or as little refinement as he likes. Lupe’s rocking with producers that help him shine best. And, as is the case with this album, we’re witnessing Lupe more effortlessly display an entire thought path without worrying about a radio single that doesn’t fit well on that path. This yielded one of Lupe’s best albums next to The Cool and Tetsuo and Youth.
