Electric Circus - Common

Some called it a result of the “Erykah Badu effect.” Other said Rashid had just been away from home too long. Either way, Hip-Hop fans rushed to diss on Electric Circus back in 2002. Some felt led on by the Pharrell-produced lead single “Come Close” with Mary J. Blige, a banger with a feel-good video that most people could get behind. Then, they heard all those electric guitars on songs like “I Got a Right Ta” (also produced by Pharrell) and “Electric Wire Hustle Flower” and they decided it tune out. And that’s where they messed up because Electric Circus still had BARS on it! Yes, the sound and deliver were a bit different than what most Common fans were used to from him but, in ‘02 this fit right in line with the Phrenology-era Roots music. And given that Questlove is one of the executive producers on this album, it could be seen as an extension of where these particular Soulquarians were at that time. But still, Electric Circus had some heat and deserves is rightful place on one of Common’s better efforts and its place in your collection.

This used LP is the original pressing from 2002 and is in mint (M) condition.
