Groove Theory

Classic. And that’s 20 year+ fact.

The late 80’s and early 90’s saw a lot of good music coming from every area of the globe. CDs make the spread of that music much easier and more economical than every before, meaning that it became even more difficult to have your music stand out from the pack. Out of seemingly nowhere, singer/songwriter Amel Larrieux and producer Bryce Wilson came with their self-titled 1993 debut, Groove Theory and knocked everyone on their behinds! Neo-Soul wasn’t really a thing yet but, it could be argued that that sub-genre could trace its roots back to releases like this one. Socially-conscious lyrics, great vocals, and hip-hop inspired R&B production made for a winning formula that is still referenced today. While it’s been rumored that they considered reuniting in recent years, Groove Theory has aged well, still sounding good over 20 years later.
