C-o-double-m-o-to-the-n is back. Connected closely with his more recent book, Let Love, is an album that finds Lonnie Lynn looking internally and expressing what he found in ways he hasn’t in the past. The lead single, “HER Love with Daniel Caesar, rounds out the trilogy in hip-hop love letters that began with his classic, “I Used to Love H.E.R.” Resurrecting old Dilla beats isn’t all he’s got in store thought. “Hercules” proves to be a resurgence of the “Hungry” era Common, consisting of bars that make you remember why he’s so respected as an emcee. There aren’t many rappers with as long a run as Common that are still consistently putting out music worth checking for. Yet, as he said in Hi-Tek’s 2006 song “Music for Life,” Common has made sure that “no matter the money or the movies, music is first.”
