South Side Soul - The John Wright Trio

South Side Soul - The John Wright Trio
A proper welcome to the south side of Chicago.
This one is special. Like, really special. It’s blues with a slight swing and groove. It’s extremely rare. And it’s south-south-south siiiiiide (ALLDAY!). John Wright, along with Wendell “Corky” Roberts (bass) and Walter McCants (drums), set out to define Chicago through the sound of the blues on South Side Soul. This 1960 release is the amalgamation of their years playing individually and in various groups around the city up until recording this record. They take you on a tour of some then-prominent areas on Chicago’s south side, providing the vibe of that block or corner. This sound is part of what the Great Migration birthed and, thankfully, these three were skilled enough to put it on wax in a way that’s undeniably blues and undeniably Chicago.
This record is part of The Phyllis Collection and has seen a little love but, could still be considered to be in very good (VG) condition with the sleeve being in very good plus (VG+) condition.
