The stone that the builder refused. Originally recorded and released in 1959, the song “Take Five” was slept on for two years before Time Out was re-released by Columbia and becoming the timeless hit with ears then and now. Playing into the name of the album, each of the songs features either an uncommon time signature or scale and grouping changes that, on paper, would be unorthodox but that they made work seamlessly. That is genius level work and one of the reasons this album has seen more re-releases worldwide since 1961 than perhaps any other jazz album. Calling this one of the essential albums for any collection is an understatement. Take a listen below and add this gem (1962 pressing) to your collection today!
